The Tale of The Amazing Two-Headed Afghan Baby

The Tale of The Amazing Two-Headed Afghan Baby

As it turns out, two heads aren't better than one.

An Afghan baby born with two heads, underwent surgery to remove the extra one.

Young Asree Gul was born in Afghanistan a few months ago.  When she was born, she came out with something extra, a second head on the back of her functioning head.

Asree was born to a family of farmers in the Chaparhar District of Afghanistan.  She also has a twin sister, who was born without complication.

The operation war performed by Cheif Surgeon Ahmed Obain Mojadidi.  He stated "The surgery performed on young Asree was the first of its kind ever performed in this region"

Asree's father, Nematullah did not expect his daughter to survive the surgery.  "The doctors saved her life" he told the AFP

Doctors believe the extra head was the result on an undeveloped third baby sibling, a rare condition called Craniopagus Parasiticus.

The most famous of this rare disease happened in 2005 when a ten-month-old baby underwent surgery for the same disease.  The surgery in that case was considered a success, however, unfortunately she died of a brain infection about a year later.

In the case of young Asree, who's name translates to "new flower", so far the surgery seems successful.  She is recovering at home.  We certainly with her the best and a speedy recovery.
